This course provides a general awareness of the risks and the regulatory requirements for protecting employees who work with or around 1,3-Butadiene, as required by OSHA.
1,3-Butadiene, also known simply as Butadiene, is a chemical made from the processing of petroleum. It is one of the higher volume chemicals produced in the U.S. It is a colorless gas with a mild gasoline-like odor that easily condenses to a liquid. It is used primarily to make synthetic rubber, which is widely used for the manufacture of tires and plastics. It is also used as a chemical intermediate in the production of different industrial chemicals.
Butadiene is irritating to the upper respiratory system, flammable, explosive when mixed with air, and carcinogenic. It is believed to be the most potent carcinogen in cigarette smoke. Acute exposure to low doses of BD may cause irritation to the eyes, throat, nose, and lungs. Acute exposure to high doses of BD may cause damage to the central nervous system or cause such symptoms as distorted blurred vision, vertigo, general tiredness, decreased blood pressure, headache, nausea, decreased pulse rate, and fainting. The EPA classifies BD as a known human carcinogen.
The objective of this 1,3-Butadiene Awareness Online course is to provide a general awareness of the risks and the regulatory requirements for protecting employees who work with or around Butadiene, as required by OSHA.
The course will also introduce students to the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations for Butadiene, Subpart Z, Toxic and Hazardous Substances - 29 CFR 1910.1051.

This course consists of 1 module broken down into 3 sections. Students are required to take each section in sequential order as listed below.

Employers must train each employee who is potentially exposed to BD at or above the action level or short-term exposure limit (STEL) in accordance with the requirements of the OSHA Standard.
Employers must institute a training program, ensure employee participation in the program, and maintain a record of the program’s contents.
Training must be provided prior to, or at the time of, initial assignment to a job potentially involving exposure to BD at or above the action level or STEL and at least annually thereafter and must be conducted in a manner that employees are able to understand.
We're excited to announce that this course is available in HTML 5, making it more compatible with the browser on your mobile device (e.g., smartphone or tablet).
This course requires only the most recent version of your mobile device's web browser.
Mobile versions of this sort of training are new, but below are some Pros and Cons that we have noticed during our extensive testing.
During our testing we noticed that tablets work much better than smartphones, simply due to their screen size. The newer the device, the better the result. We are also aware that the course will not work on the first generation iPad, nor older Android Tablets.
Test the functionality of your browser using HTML5 and compare it to the performance of other browsers. If you find other browsers are more compatible than your own, you may want to make the switch.
